BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. R. J. Gunter, who won South – East Essex for the Labour Party in 1945, was born in 1909. In his four years’ service with the Royal Engineers in the war, he was a staff captain at Movement Control H.Q. in Iraq. He has been a branch official of the Railway Clerks’ Association since he was 20. He is a Methodist and a local preacher.
