BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. E. L. Mallalieu was Liberal M.P. for Colne Valley, a seat previously held by his father, from 1931 to 1935, and won Brigg in a by-election in 1948, having joined the Labour Party in 1945. Educated at Cheltenham and Oxford, he practised as a barrister in London and on the North-Eastern Circuit, but after a breakdown in health he left law for farming. He is aged 43, and is the brother of Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu, the member for East Huddersfield.
