Lord Freyberg – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Education

To ask Her Majesty’s Government how many postgraduate students in England were enrolled in two-year masters’ degree courses in (1) 2009–10, (2) 2010–11, (3) 2011–12, (4) 2012–13, (5) 2013–14, (6) 2014–15, and (7) 2015–16.

Information on enrolments at UK Higher Education Institutions is collected and published by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), and the latest academic year for which data are available is 2014/15.

The Joint Academic Coding System (JACS) is the classification of subjects used by HESA. The specific breakdown of subjects requested is not available using the JACS classification, so a breakdown of the Creative Arts and Design category has been provided as an alternative.

The government is for the first time introducing a new £10,000 master’s loan to support those wishing to progress into postgraduate study.

Baroness Randerson – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Transport

To ask Her Majesty’s Government how they encourage local authorities and other interested organisations to share best practice regarding the introduction and operation of shared space for vehicles and pedestrians.

To help identify and disseminate good practice in implementing shared space, the Department for Transport is working with the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, who are preparing updated guidance. This work aims to use the practical experience gained from recent shared space schemes to provide good practice advice to local authorities and other interested organisations. To help inform this work, as the Minister responsible for this issue, my Hon Friend, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, the Hon Member for Harrogate and Knaresborough, Andrew Jones, has written to all local authorities asking them to provide information on relevant schemes to the Department by the end of November.

Sharon Hodgson – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Education

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, whether her Department plans to publish A-Level data for each type of special educational need.

Information regarding the attainment of students with special educational needs (SEN) in England is broken down by type of SEN and published in the “Phonics screening check and key stage 1 assessment: England 2015”[1], “National curriculum assessments at key stage 2: 2015”[2] and “GCSE and equivalent results in England: 2015”[3] statistical first releases.

A wider summary of available SEN information is provided in “Special educational needs – an analysis and summary of data sources”[4]

Information on the average points score of students with a hearing impairment or the number that achieve three A* to A grades or better at A level is not held by the Department. The Department also does not hold information on the number of students with a hearing impairment who have not achieved a level 2 qualification in English by the age of 19.

Currently, there are no plans for the Department to publish A-level data split by type of special educational need or to collect additional data on the outcomes achieved by students who have a disability but not an identified special educational need, although this is reviewed every year as part of the collection process.

The Bank of England publishes aggregated data relating to UK Financial Institutions’ balance sheets. Its statistical releases can be found via the following link: http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/statistics/Pages/calendar/default.aspx

Under the Capital Requirements (country-by-country reporting) Regulations 2013 there are reporting obligations on institutions in the United Kingdom within scope of the Capital Requirements Directive 4. The regulations require institutions to publish annually details on a consolidated basis, by country where they have an establishment. These details include: their name, nature of activities and geographical location; number of employees; and their turnover.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the answer by Lord Keen of Elie on 12 July (HL Deb, col 124), how many Syrian refugees have been settled in each of the 71 local authorities so far.

Progress on resettlement in each local authority is indicated in quarterly immigration statistics. The last set of statistics, published on 26 May 2016, showed that 1,602 Syrians were resettled in the UK under the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement scheme between October 2015 and March 2016 and sets out how many were located in each local authority.
