Chris Ruane – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Communities and Local Government

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Chris Ruane on 2014-06-24.

To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, what grants have been given by the Coastal Communities Fund to date; which town, county and parliamentary constituency received each such grant; and what the size and purpose of each grant was.

    Kris Hopkins

The Coastal Communities Fund supports economic growth and jobs in coastal communities across the United Kingdom. We have awarded a total of 104 grants under the Fund to date in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland at a total value of £53.6 million. A table has been placed in the Library of the House giving the details requested for all 104 grants.

Decisions on grant awards in England are taken by Government Ministers. In Wales and Northern Ireland grant awards are taken by panels involving officials from the BIG Lottery Fund and Devolved Administrations, and in Scotland by independently appointed panels.

David Amess – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Ministry of Defence

The below Parliamentary question was asked by David Amess on 2014-06-24.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with which countries his Department has (a) held discussions and (b) plans to hold discussions on (i) joint events and (ii) a UK presence at overseas events to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the ending of the Second World War; when any such discussions (A) took place and (B) are due to take place; and if he will make a statement.

    Anna Soubry

Following the very successful commemorations to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day we will now be focusing in more detail across Government on how the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in 2015 might be marked in an appropriate manner. I expect an announcement to be made later in the year.

  • Chris Ruane – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Deputy Prime Minister

Chris Ruane – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Deputy Prime Minister

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Chris Ruane on 2014-06-24.

To ask the Deputy Prime Minister, with reference to the Answer of 28 January 2014, Official Report, column 510W, on electoral register: young people, how much funding his Department has made available to (a) Rock Enroll and (b) Bite the Ballot in each year for which data is available; and how many people each such organisation has directly registered in each year for which data is available.

    Greg Clark

The Government is supportive of organisations that promote democratic engagement such as Bite the Ballot.

Cabinet Office and Bite the Ballot co-developed the Rock Enrol learning resource in 2012/2013. The value of the contract was £25,700. The Government has made Rock Enrol freely available freely available on the gov.uk and Times Education Supplement websites.

  • Paul Flynn – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Energy and Climate Change

Paul Flynn – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Energy and Climate Change

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Paul Flynn on 2014-06-24.

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, what the evidential basis was for the statement made by his Department’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in her foreword to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s Annual Report and Accounts for 2013-14, issued on 23 June 2014, that the continuation of Nuclear Management Partner’s contract to manage the Sellafield site offers the potential of stability and focus on the priorities during a vital five-year period in the history of Sellafield as it transitions from an operational plant into a fully-fledged decommissioning site.

    Michael Fallon

The decision on contract extension was for the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority in line with its duties and responsibilities under the Energy Act 2004. The Department has oversight of all NDA activity and, given the particular importance of Sellafield, officials were closely involved throughout the contract review. From this we were assured that the NDA reached its decision based on a thorough and independent review of performance in the first period of the contract and consideration of all the options available to it. Ministers endorsed the NDA Board’s decision to extend the contract for a second term on the basis that rolling the contract forward represented the best way forward, giving the opportunity for NMP to build on progress made to date, address weaker areas of performance and make further real progress in this next five year term.

  • Nick de Bois – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Nick de Bois – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Nick de Bois on 2014-06-24.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what assessment he has made of the implications for the Middle East peace process of then-Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh’s statement in April 2014 that kidnapping Israelis was a top priority on the agenda of Hamas and the Palestinian resistance.

    Hugh Robertson

The statement made by the then-Hamas Prime Minister in April 2014 was deplorable and only serves to perpetuate the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The new Palestinian interim technocratic government contains no Hamas members, and has signed up to the international community’s principles: non-violence, a negotiated two state solution, and an acceptance of all previous agreements and obligations, including Israel’s legitimate right to exist. We now look to the new government to demonstrate these commitments through its actions as well as its words.

  • Andrew Smith – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Andrew Smith – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Andrew Smith on 2014-06-24.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, with reference to the Answer of 6 May 2014, Official Report, column 73W, on Israel, how many complaints about differential treatment of British nationals have been made since 2010 by the UK embassy in Tel Aviv to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and on which dates.

    Hugh Robertson

Officials from our Embassy in Tel Aviv have formally raised with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) mistreatment of British nationals three times since 2010. They were on 7 January 2012; 19 December 2012 and 18 March 2013. Our officials have to seek permission from the individual concerned before raising with the MFA, and not all individuals are willing to pursue this route.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is unable to interfere in the immigration policies or procedures of another country, but does raise cases of grave concern with the MFA.

  • Hugh Bayley – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Education

Hugh Bayley – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Education

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Hugh Bayley on 2014-06-27.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what the gross average salary was of a full-time teacher in local authority schools in the City of York in (a) cash and (b) real terms in 1995-96 and in each year since.

    Mr David Laws

I refer the hon. Member to the reply given on 10 July 2013, Official Report 297W, which provided the gross average salary of full-time regular qualified teachers in service in local authority maintained schools in cash terms and real terms for York local authority, in each March, 1997 to 2009 and November 2010 to November 2011.

The gross average salary of full-time regular qualified teachers in service in local authority maintained schools in cash terms and real terms for York local authority, in November 2012 is £36,200 in both cash and real terms (rounded to the nearest £100). Figures cover all primary, secondary and special local authority maintained schools that were open but exclude academies. 2013 figures will be available in late July 2014. The source of this information is the November 2012 School Workforce Census.

Real terms figures were calculated from HMT GDP deflators, financial year, published on 1 April 2014 at the following web link:

Hugh Bayley – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Energy and Climate Change

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Hugh Bayley on 2014-06-27.

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, how many (a) single-pensioner households in York and (b) two-pensioner households in York have received Warm Front assistance in each year since the inception of that scheme; and what the average spend has been on each such household.

    Gregory Barker

The last year of the Warm Front Scheme was 2012-13. There has been no further change in the Warm Front figures for York local authority area since my answer to you on 9th July 2013.
