Joan Ryan – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Energy and Climate Change

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Joan Ryan on 2015-10-21.

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, if she will delay the implementation of the removal of the pre-accreditation scheme from the Feed-in Tariff.

    Andrea Leadsom

The removal of pre-accreditation was implemented as of 1 October. We consider this removal is important in maximising value-for-money deployment under the scheme.

We consider that the proposals set out in the FIT Review consultation, in particular the introduction of deployment caps, would be an appropriate means of enabling control of overall scheme costs. In this context, we consulted on the possible reintroduction of pre-accreditation for all participants or certain groups only, subject to wider affordability considerations.

Caroline Spelman – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Caroline Spelman on 2015-10-21.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, at which court hearings in Indonesia for Rebecca Prosser, Consular officials in his Department attended.

    Mr Hugo Swire

It is not our general policy to send consular officials, who are not legally trained, to attend court hearings. Consular officials have not therefore attended the court hearings. Consular staff remain in regular contact with Ms Prosser’s employer’s representatives, her legal team and her family.

The below Parliamentary question was asked by David Mackintosh on 2015-10-21.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what assessment his Department has made of the implications for his policies of recent Iranian television broadcasting footage of an underground missile base and long-range missiles and launcher units.

    Mr Tobias Ellwood

We believe Iran to have an extensive ballistic missile programme, which it is developing in contravention of UN Security Council resolutions. Provisions of the UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) endorsing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (UNSCR 2231) retain restrictions on Iran’s ballistic missile programme for a further eight years.

  • Stephen Gethins – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Department for International Development

Stephen Gethins – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Department for International Development

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Stephen Gethins on 2015-10-21.

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what assessment her Department has made of the humanitarian situation in South Sudan.

    Grant Shapps

We remain deeply concerned by the dire humanitarian situation in South Sudan. In October 2015, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) assessed that 3.9 million South Sudanese people were severely food insecure in September, an 80% increase compared to last year at the same time and unprecedented in the country. The IPC found 30,000 people in Unity state experiencing catastrophic food insecurity. The risk of famine in the absence of urgent and immediate unrestricted humanitarian access is very real.

The UK is second largest bilateral donor to the humanitarian response in South Sudan £172m has been committed since the start of the crisis in December 2013, along with an additional £88.9m to the regional response for South Sudanese refugees.

The South Sudan Humanitarian Response Plan has sought $1.63 billion to meet the most urgent needs until the end of 2015 and it is so far 55% funded. The low level of funding is concerning. The UK Government continues to urge the international community to respond as we have and follow our lead.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answer by Lord Bates on 16 September (HL2087), whether they have established success criteria for the budgeted spend of £2 million for Operation Grange in 2015–16.

    Lord Bates

The Home Office funds the cost of Operation Grange from the Special Grant budget. The level of funding provided to the Metropolitan Police in relation to this investigation is reviewed regularly and will continue to be monitored. The Metropolitan Police keep the Home Office informed of the progress of the investigation through regular updates. These include an assessment of the need for continued funding which is linked to whether there remain continued lines of investigation to pursue.

  • Baroness Jones of Whitchurch – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Transport

Baroness Jones of Whitchurch – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Transport

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Baroness Jones of Whitchurch on 2015-10-20.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of the case for establishing a national testing regime routinely to measure vehicle emissions under real operating conditions.

    Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon

There has been no assessment made at national level.

The government has been at the forefront of action at a European level to introduce real driving emissions (RDE) testing, to ensure tests of all new passenger cars and vans accurately represent performance out on the road and ensure public confidence. We will continue to press for the introduction of RDE at the earliest opportunity.
