    To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the Answer of 18 June 2015 to Question 2544, what progress is being made on reviewing the Mersey Tunnel tolls.

    The Review of the Mersey Tunnel Tolls is being undertaken by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. It is currently underway and will inform the Authority’s toll setting decisions for 2016-17, which will be taken next month. Officials at the Department are engaging with the Authority on the Review, which is expected to continue during 2016-17 to inform a longer term tolling position.

    Border Force does not have the requested data prior to 2012/13. Since then we have made improvements to our command and control of general aviation, including our national statistical reporting, and are able to provide full details from 2013 onwards.

    During 2013/14 Border Force a) attended 27,299 flights and remotely cleared 18,885 flights

    During 2014/15 Border Force a) attended 27,033 flights and remotely cleared 32,042

    I and my officials have met and corresponded with industry representatives to discuss the issue of disruptive passengers on a number of occasions over the last year. In particular we have been working closely with airlines, airports, the police and duty free retailers to understand the challenges posed by disruptive behaviour on aircraft and to explore practical steps that can be taken to both reduce the frequency of these instances and to ensure that they are dealt with appropriately when they do occur. We are very supportive of industry’s efforts, including to collating and disseminating best practice and guidance; we will continue to provide assistance where appropriate.

    Landfill operators can only distribute monies from the Landfilll Communities Fund to environmental bodies. In order to receive money directly from a landfill operator, a project would have to register as an environmental body with the scheme’s regulator, ENTRUST.

    The UK government is committed to supporting the achievement of the Global Goals in countries which receive UK Aid and is prioritising programmes to ensure that everyone has access to sustainable drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). From 2010 to 2015 DFID supported 60 million people to gain access to sustainable WASH. We are committed to supporting a further 60 million people gain access to sustainable WASH up to the end of 2020. Providing a safe and reliable drinking water and sanitation is a key element of our work across all our country programmes.

    During railway Control Period 5 (2014-2019) Network Rail is funded to operate and maintain the West Anglia Main Line. The Department for Transport has provided additional funding for a range of infrastructure enhancements including power upgrades; construction of the new Cambridge North station; provision of additional track capacity between Coppermill Junction and Angel Road at the south end of the line.

    The Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE) is a £1,500 grant per apprentice payable to eligible businesses with fewer than 50 employees who hire an apprentice aged 16 to 24.

    To minimise burdens on employers, AGE is claimed through the training provider.

    AGE funding has been devolved to some city regions as part of increasing local decision-making powers.

    To ensure the integrity and security of the UK border, Her Majesty’s Government cannot provide port specific statistics.

    Border Force operates a multi-layered search regime using a range of interventions to screen all freight vehicles entering the UK through the juxtaposed ports. This includes the use of specialist technologies such as Passive Millimetre Wave Imaging devices, heartbeat monitors and carbon dioxide detectors as well as physical searches by sniffer dogs, Border Force staff and specialist search contractors.

    The Government is committed to the implementation of the Pension Protection Fund long service cap as described in the Pensions Act 2014.

    Before the primary legislation can be brought into force, a number of changes need to be made to secondary legislation, so that it will operate as expected in all cases. Therefore we cannot, at this time, commit to a particular implementation date.
