Nadhim Zahawi – 2022 Comments about Moderna Vaccine

The comments made by Nadhim Zahawi, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, on 10 October 2022.

In an interview yesterday I misspoke and said the Moderna vaccine protects against Covid and flu. What I meant to say was that Moderna is bivalent, which means it protects against both variants of Covid. You still need your flu vaccine too so please get jabbed if you’re eligible.

Nadhim Zahawi – 2022 Comments on the Inaugural UK Islands Forum

The comments made by Nadhim Zahawi, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, on 29 September 2022.

The inaugural UK Islands Forum has been a wonderful way to bring together people from across our islands discuss our shared challenges and seize new opportunities to work more closely together.

The talks I’ve led in Orkney have left me in no doubt that this Forum is an innovation that is being embraced by islands from across the UK, and it was fantastic that our colleagues in the devolved governments were part of the discussion.

There is clearly a strong appetite to continue working together on issues from the deployment of renewable technologies to the importance of creating strong partnerships between the public and private sector to drive forward investment. I look forward to seeing the real difference this makes to our island communities and beyond.

Nadhim Zahawi – 2022 Comments on Moving Civil Service Jobs Out of London

The comments made by Nadhim Zahawi, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, on 27 September 2022.

We want to drive growth right across the United Kingdom and moving Civil Service jobs out of London is crucial to delivering this. I am delighted to say that the Cabinet Office is leading the way with this work by ensuring we have key decision makers based in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

It is imperative that we continue to build on this momentum and expand opportunities for people outside of London, giving them the chance to build successful careers right across the UK and bring diversity of thought and experience right to the very top of government.

  • Nadhim Zahawi – 2022 Comments on G7 Statement on Russian Aggression

Nadhim Zahawi – 2022 Comments on G7 Statement on Russian Aggression

The comments made by Nadhim Zahawi, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, on 2 September 2022.

Since Putin’s brutal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine the UK and our allies have imposed hugely damaging sanctions on the Kremlin war machine, pushing the Russian economy into a deep recession and putting the majority of Russia’s $640billion foreign exchange reserves beyond use.

Following a productive meeting with Secretary Janet Yellen in Washington, and together with our G7 partners, we have agreed to go further. This has been a personal priority for me as Chancellor. We will curtail Putin’s capacity to fund his war from oil exports by banning services, such as insurance and the provision of finance, to vessels carrying Russian oil above an agreed price cap.

We are united against this barbaric aggression and will do all we can to support Ukraine as they fight for sovereignty, democracy and freedom.

Nadhim Zahawi – 2022 Comments on Cost of Living Support

The comments made by Nadhim Zahawi, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, on 25 August 2022.

I know people are really concerned by rising prices so I’m glad that over a million more low earners will shortly receive their first Cost of Living Payment. We are also preparing options for further support so the new Prime Minister can hit the ground running.

Alongside £400 off most people’s energy bills, tax cuts and the Household Support Fund, these direct payments are a very important part of our £37 billion package of help for households, which is targeted at those who need it most.

Nadhim Zahawi – 2022 Comments on the Cost of Living

The comments made by Nadhim Zahawi, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, on 23 August 2022.

We know that rising prices faced by many countries around the world are a significant worry for many people here in the UK, especially those most vulnerable to additional costs.

Today’s announcement that disabled people will begin to receive an additional £150 payment from the end of September reinforces our commitment to help UK households through the challenging times ahead.

This payment is in addition to further help households can expect over the coming months – including a second cost of living payment of £324 for households on means-tested benefits, £300 for pensioners this winter and £400 discount on energy bills for every household. This is all part of our significant £37 billion support package.

We know that people are struggling with rising energy prices which is why we have taken action with support over the winter months to help ease the pressure on household budgets.

This £400 off energy bills is part of our £37 billion of help for households, including 8 million of the most vulnerable households receiving £1,200 of direct support to help with the cost of living.

We know there are tough times ahead and we will continue to do everything in our power to help people.

Nadhim Zahawi – 2022 Comments on Visit to Darlington

The comments made by Nadhim Zahawi, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, on 26 July 2022.

It was great to work from the Darlington Economic Campus yesterday and announce the Treasury’s new permanent office at the heart of the town.

We are levelling up across the UK, tapping into the extraordinary talent in towns across the country and I am eager to see more Treasury roles in Darlington.

People in all parts of this great country have a right to be at the heart of government decision-making and we are delivering on that promise by moving up to 300 Treasury roles to Darlington by 2025.

Nadhim Zahawi – 2022 Comments on Support for Ukraine

The comments made by Nadhim Zahawi, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, on 15 July 2022.

We are unwavering in our support for Ukraine.

The UK stands steadfast with our partners in condemning Russia’s illegal and barbaric actions. Putin’s illegal war has disrupted the supply of food, energy and other vital goods, has caused prices to rise and is exacerbating the challenges the global economy was already facing as we bounced back from the pandemic.
