To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the Answer of 21 July 2015 to Question 8367, how many UK troops are embedded in (a) Syria, (b) Lebanon, (c) Libya, (d) Yemen, (e) Turkey and (g) USA.

I refer the hon. Member to my written ministerial statement of 17 December 2015, (Official Report, column 98WS) which sets out that we only centrally collate data on embedded forces with those nations with whom UK forces are embedded on operations, and to my letter of 6 January 2016 explaining that I am unable to specify the exact locations of UK personnel because this risks their personal security and the security of Allies’ operations.

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what plans he has for the funding of agri-environment projects in receipt of EU funding signed after the Autumn Statement.

On October 3, the Chancellor confirmed that funding for agri-environment schemes signed after Autumn Statement will be guaranteed by the Treasury. The guarantee will apply to all new agri-environment schemes signed before the point of exit from the EU as long as they provide strong value for money and are in line with domestic priorities.

These conditions will be applied in such a way that the current pipeline of committed projects are not disrupted, including agri-environment schemes due to begin this January.

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, if she will make an assessment of the costs and benefits to the UK of implementation of the EU Hazardous Waste Directive.

The EU Hazardous Waste Directive was repealed on the introduction of the revised Waste Framework Directive in 2008.

I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave on 30 October to Questions 13685 and 14733. An assessment of the costs and benefits of the revised Waste Framework Directive in England and Wales was carried out when laying the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011 which transposed the Directive. The assessment was published and is still available on the Legislation.gov website. This is the most up to date assessment of the impacts of the Waste Framework Directive and contains a year-by-year breakdown of the expected costs. As waste is a devolved issue, the Devolved Administrations carried out and published their own impact assessments, which are similarly available online.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, how many and what proportion of UK railway stations have steps but no lift access.

Information on the facilities available at individual stations is collected and held by the Association of Train Operating Companies, rather than the Department. However, we understand that around 460 stations in the UK have step free access to and between all platforms. I also note that both railway stations in the Hon Member’s constituency – Wakefield Westgate and Wakefield Kirkgate – are now step free.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, what progress is being made on maintaining an open border between the UK and the Republic of Ireland after the UK leaves the EU.

Leaders in both Ireland and the UK have been unequivocal – both want to maintain the current arrangement and avoid the introduction of physical border controls within the Common Travel Area.

I attend regular meetings with representatives of the Irish Government and we are working together to achieve this outcome.

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, pursuant to the Answer of 30 October 2015 to Question 13685, if she will make an assessment of the monetary benefits arising from implementation of the revised EU Waste Framework Directive in each of the last four years.

An assessment of the costs and benefits of the revised Waste Framework Directive in England and Wales was carried out when laying the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011 which transposed the Directive. The assessment was published and is still available on the Legislation.gov webpages. This is the most up to date assessment of the impacts of the Waste Framework Directive, and contains a year-by-year breakdown of the expected costs. As waste is a devolved issue, the Devolved Administrations carried out and published their own impact assessments, which are similarly available online.

The European Commission are expected to publish on December 2 proposals to amend the revised Waste Framework Directive. Once those proposals are published, we will submit another explanatory memorandum to the House, assessing the potential costs and benefits of those changes.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, with reference to the announcement of 19 January 2016 of the launch of the £10 million Magna Carta Fund for Human Rights and Democracy, how much of the additional funding in that area will come from the budget of (a) his Department and (b) the Department for International Development.

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how much in legal aid was granted to prison inmates in England and Wales in each of the last five years.

The information requested is not held centrally. The Legal Aid Agency (LAA) does not identify or record in its databases whether civil legal aid applicants are prisoners as this does not affect eligibility for legal aid funding.
