Jenny Chapman – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Education

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Jenny Chapman on 2016-04-19.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what assessment she has made of the effect of her Department’s school food standards on milk consumption in primary schools.

    Mr Sam Gyimah

We have had one piece of correspondence on milk from a school in recent months. The Department does not collect data on the consumption of milk. The revised School Food Standards are effective from 1 January 2015 and designed to be easier to read and implement. A full public consultation on the School Food Standards regulations was held between 6 March and 16 April 2014. All schools were subsequently notified of the guidance through our termly communications with schools. The standards and guidance are available on gov.uk at:

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Jenny Chapman on 2016-09-15.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, how much has been spent on the Better Health Programme and predecessor programmes examining the future configuration at Darlington Memorial Hospital to date.

    Mr Philip Dunne

Funding for this programme is the responsibility of local clinical commissioning groups (CCGs).

The Better Health Programme, previously Securing Quality in Hospital Services, has been funded by five CCGs (Darlington; North Durham; Durham Dales, Easington and Sedgefield; Hartlepool and Stockton; South Tees). Final annual costs for each year are in the table.

Table: Final annual costs for the Better Health Programme

    Year

    Final costs (£)

2013/14 (Securing Quality in Hospital Services)

    555,875

2014/15 (Securing Quality in Hospital Services)

    425,748

    2015/16 (Better Health Programme)

    580,000

    2016/17 (Better Health Programme) 1

    3,100,000

1 Planned cost for the full year. The increase is primarily due to additional costs for financial modelling of options, stakeholder communications and engagement and overall programme management.

Jenny Chapman – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Ministry of Justice

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Jenny Chapman on 2015-10-19.

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how many under-18 year olds in prison have been starred up in each prison in each month during each of the last five years for which figures are available.

    Andrew Selous

Starring up is the term used to define the process whereby young people under the age of 18 can be moved into the young adult estate prior to their eighteenth birthday. The starring up process can be used for a range of reasons, but past usage has mainly been in relating to the management of disruptive or violent behaviour or transfers to Mother and Baby Units.

In practice, the starring up process is rarely used and then only in exceptional circumstances.

No young person has been starred-up into the young adult estate since January 2014. Data in relation to the number of young people who were starred-up into the young adult estate in the three years prior to that, broken down by the establishment they were starred-up from and the month in which the decision was made is provided in the tables below.

Jenny Chapman – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Work and Pensions

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Jenny Chapman on 2014-03-12.

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, how many people in Darlington constituency currently receive independent living fund payments.

    Mike Penning

The Independent Living Fund records data by post code or local authority rather than by constituency and therefore, does not hold the information in the format requested. As at 13 March 2014 there are 63 ILF recipients in the area covered by Darlington Borough Council.

The ILF publishes data by local authority quarterly on its website: http://www.dwp.gov.uk/ilf/publications/corporate-publications/statistics/index.shtml
