    The amount of Statutory Maternity Pay in the last year for which figures are available was £2,303 million for 2012/13 (nominal terms). Figures are subject to change due to more information becoming available through employers’ returns to HM Revenue and Customs.

    The figure is for Great Britain only. Northern Ireland figures are the responsibility of the Department for Social Development in Northern Ireland.

    The marriage certificate is an exact copy of the marriage entry which is in a
    form prescribed in the Regulation of Marriage Regulations 1986. We are
    currently considering how the information captured in the marriage entry can be
    updated to reflect changes since 1986, as well as including the names of
    mothers; the costs of doing so and the most suitable opportunity for doing so.

    To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, how many women received statutory maternity pay for how long in the latest period for which figures are available.

    The total number of women that started receiving Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) in 2011/12 was 355,000 and the average number receiving SMP at any point in time during the year was 273,000. These figures are estimated based on a 1% sample of National Insurance records.

    This figure is for Great Britain only. Northern Ireland figures are the responsibility of the Department for Social Development in Northern Ireland.

    The duration of SMP claims cannot be estimated from National Insurance records, as these only contain information on the amount of SMP paid across the year and not when SMP claims begin and end. However the Department publishes the Maternity and Paternity Rights and Women Returners Survey, which provides an indication of SMP claim durations, with the latest publication being in 2009/10. In 2008, about half of women eligible for SMP took maternity pay for the statutory number of weeks (39 weeks).     To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, pursuant to the Answer of 10 April 2014, Official Report, column 318W, on housing benefit: social rented housing, how many housing benefit social sector tenants have been (a) given exempt status because they reached state pension credit age and (b) allowed to keep an extra bedroom because they are (i) registered foster carers who have fostered a child during the last 52 weeks and (ii) parents of armed forces’ personnel who have been deployed on operations.

    a) – The information relating to the numbers reaching state pension credit age who are no longer subject to the removal of the spare room subsidy is not available.

    We can say that there are estimated to be 700,000 housing benefit tenants who are state pension credit age and have one or more spare bedrooms.

    b) ii) – Information relating to parents of armed forces’ personnel is not available.
