Conor McGinn – 2021 Comments on Atomwaffen Division

The comments made by Conor McGinn, the Shadow Security Minister, on 19 April 2021.

Racism and fascism have no place in our society or on our streets, so it’s welcome that this vile group has rightly been outlawed as a terrorist organisation.

It is concerning that the group seems to have been operational since 2015, yet this action is only now happening.

Labour has long warned that the government does not have a robust enough strategy to address the rise in far-right extremism. This needs to be swiftly addressed, to tackle this appalling threat.

Conor McGinn – 2021 Comments on the Sir Craig Mackey Review

The comments made by Conor McGinn, the Shadow Security Minister, on 17 March 2021.

After ten years of Conservative Government, it is a damning indictment of their record that they stand accused of allowing inefficient systems and ineffective delivery to hamper the fight against serious and organised crime.

The Government has time and again delayed publishing this report and now we know why. They need to account for their failings and take on board Sir Craig’s recommendations to ensure the police and law enforcement are able to properly protect and respond to victims and keep our communities secure.

Conor McGinn – 2021 Comments on De-radicalisation in Prisons

The comments made by Conor McGinn, the Shadow Security Minister, on 25 January 2021.

With growing concerns about the links between extremists in prison and terrorists who have carried out attacks on the outside, it’s clear that the Government is failing at de-radicalisation in prisons.

Ministers need to announce a coherent de-radicalization strategy in prisons, as well as urgently assessing how to protect the public from those who continue to pose a dangerous security threat despite being behind bars.

Conor McGinn – 2020 Comments on Sunburst Cyber Attack

The comments made by Conor McGinn, the Shadow Security Minister, on 18 December 2020.

This cyberattack on one of our closest allies is unprecedented in its scale and duration, and we need urgent clarity from the Government about whether there has been any direct or associated impact on Britain’s defence, security or economic interests.

It’s vital that the UK is prepared to repel any such attacks here and take the appropriate measures to protect us and our allies from this hostile activity.

With the National Security Adviser focused on negotiations with the EU, Ministers must reassure the British public that our national security and this grave situation is receiving the full attention it merits.

Conor McGinn – 2020 Statement on National Security Council Not Meeting

Below is the text of the statement made by Conor McGinn, the Shadow Minister of State for Security, on 22 April 2020.

It is deeply worrying to find out that the National Security Council has not met since January.

The immediate threat to our country posed by coronavirus does not mean that other aspects of national security can be ignored, or dealing with them postponed.

The UK continues to face dangerous threats from terrorism, hostile states, organised crime and cybercrime.

It is astonishing that the National Security Council, which is supposed to meet on a weekly basis, has not met for months and seemingly played no role during the national emergency caused by the coronavirus.
