Rachel Reeves – 2022 Comments on the Economy

The comments made by Rachel Reeves, the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, on 12 June 2022.

People are scared about the future and lack the confidence to spend.

While the Chancellor’s cost of living package and u-turn on the windfall tax are welcome, we need more than just sticking plasters. People want more than just sticking plasters. They want to know that the government has got control of the economy and a grip of this crisis.

Over the past 12 years the Conservatives have demolished the foundations of our economy.

With me as Chancellor, Labour will build a stronger, more secure economy. We will get the cost of living crisis under control and make Britain more resilient, laying the foundations we need for a thriving, dynamic economy.

  • Boris Johnson – 2022 Comments on Second Visit to Kiev

Boris Johnson – 2022 Comments on Second Visit to Kiev

The comments made by Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister, on 17 June 2022.

My visit today, in the depths of this war, is to send a clear and simple message to the Ukrainian people: the UK is with you, and we will be with you until you ultimately prevail.

As Ukrainian soldiers fire UK missiles in defence of your nation’s sovereignty, they do so also in defence of the very freedoms we take for granted.

That is why I have offered President Zelenskyy a major new military training programme that could change the equation of this war –harnessing that most powerful of forces, the Ukrainian determination to win.

Two months on from my last visit, the Ukrainian grit, determination and resilience is stronger than ever, and I know that unbreakable resolve will long outlive the vain ambitions of President Putin.

George Freeman – 2022 Comments on Exploring Exoplanets

The comments made by George Freeman, the Science Minister, on 18 June 2022.

This is an incredibly important commitment for UK space science and technology, marking a major milestone for the National Space Strategy and boosting our ambitions to grow our £16.5 billion commercial space sector.

By investing £30 million and taking the helm of the entire Ariel consortium – the first time in a decade that we have secured leadership for a mission of this magnitude – we are putting the UK at the heart of international space research, providing new opportunities for space businesses and academics across the country.

  • Wendy Morton – 2022 Comments on Haxby Railway Station

Wendy Morton – 2022 Comments on Haxby Railway Station

The comments made by Wendy Morton, the Rail Minister, on 18 June 2022.

This funding will reconnect communities long cut off from the railway.

The last time you could catch a train from Haxby Station was 1930, George V was on the throne and The Times had just published their first-ever crossword. But now, thanks to this funding, communities across England could be reconnected to our railways once more.

This fund is a great example of how we are committed to helping communities across the country level up and reconnect people and businesses to new opportunities.

  • Jacob Rees-Mogg – 2022 Comments on Government Hub in Manchester

Jacob Rees-Mogg – 2022 Comments on Government Hub in Manchester

The comments made by Jacob Rees-Mogg, the Secretary of State for Levelling Up and Brexit Opportunities, on 14 June 2022.

The First Street development reaffirms Her Majesty’s Government’s long-term commitment to Manchester. The Places for Growth programme is delivering high quality government jobs across the whole country, and ensuring that Whitehall can take advantage of the wisdom and experience from people all over the United Kingdom.

This new site will provide a home for civil servants from at least four different government departments, making it one of the largest hubs for cross-government collaboration and operation outside London.

By the time this site opens in 2025, 2,500 Civil Servants will have been relocated from Greater London to Manchester. I am pleased that the government has secured them a new home with office working at its heart, which will bring tens of millions of pounds to the Greater Manchester economy.

Gillian Keegan – 2022 Comments on Charging Reforms in Social Care

The comments made by Gillian Keegan, the Minister for Care, on 15 June 2022.

Our charging reforms will mean no one will have to face unpredictable and often catastrophic care costs and this new funding will help local authorities to implement these vital changes.

We’re committed to fair and high-quality care, and this is the beginning of our journey of reform, creating the next step in making our ambitious plans a reality.

We’re working closely with local authorities, providers and care receivers to deliver a smooth transition into the new system to end unpredictable cost of care for the public.

Boris Johnson – 2022 Comments on Government’s Food Strategy

The comments made by Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister, on 13 June 2022.

Our Food Strategy sets out a blueprint for how we will back farmers, boost British industry and help protect people against the impacts of future economic shocks by safeguarding our food security.

Harnessing new technologies and innovation, we will grow and eat more of our own food – unlocking jobs across the country and growing the economy, which in turn will ultimately help to reduce pressure on prices.

  • Anne-Marie Trevelyan – 2022 Comments on Fairness in Trade

Anne-Marie Trevelyan – 2022 Comments on Fairness in Trade

The comments made by Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the Secretary of State for International Trade, on 12 June 2022.

Putin’s brutal war unleashed devastation and disruption on a world already burdened with Covid-19 and facing the omnipresent threat of climate change.

The UK will continue to show leadership at this critical and fragile time, when we must defend the values that bind us together. Freedom and fairness are now more important than ever if we wish to use global trade to grow our economies, deliver better living standards for communities at home and abroad, and to address some of the world’s most significant challenges.

  • Charles Kennedy – 2003 Comments on Blair and the Hutton Inquiry

Charles Kennedy – 2003 Comments on Blair and the Hutton Inquiry

The comments made by Charles Kennedy, the then Leader of the Liberal Democrats, on 30 July 2003.

As usual the Prime Minister evaded answering many of the questions he was asked. But the central question on the Hutton inquiry was not posed. That is: If Lord Hutton concludes that his limited remit has prevented him from fully investigating the circumstances leading to Dr David Kelly’s death will the Prime Minister then agree to set up a more wide-ranging independent inquiry, headed by a judge, into the events which led us going to war? The British people deserve answers.

Charles Kennedy – 2003 Comments on Death of David Kelly

The comments made by Charles Kennedy, the then Leader of the Liberal Democrats, on 18 July 2003.

This is obviously terribly, terribly sad news and everybody’s thoughts and good wishes will be with Dr Kelly’s family and his friends and colleagues at this awful time. I welcome the fact the Prime Minister has said there will obviously have to be a full-scale inquiry into what on earth led to this happening. It would be wrong to comment further before we have more details of that but at the moment this is a desperately sad turn of events.
