  • Labour Party – 2022 Statement on Dismissal of Sam Tarry

Labour Party – 2022 Statement on Dismissal of Sam Tarry

A statement issued by the Labour Party on 27 July 2022.

This isn’t about appearing on a picket line. Members of the front bench sign up to collective responsibility. That includes media appearances being approved and speaking to agreed frontbench positions.

As a government in waiting, any breach of collective responsibility is taken extremely seriously and for these reasons Sam Tarry has been removed from the frontbench.

  • John McDonnell – 2022 Article on Dismissal of Sam Tarry

John McDonnell – 2022 Article on Dismissal of Sam Tarry

A section of the article in the Guardian by John McDonnell, the Labour MP for Hayes and Harlington, on 27 July 2022.

The anger at Starmer’s actions among trade unions is palpable. This may not matter to the leader’s team when the Tories are so helpfully self-immolating, but when times get tougher and the trade union cavalry is needed to save the leader, they may remember who was and who wasn’t on this summer’s picket lines.

The risk is that when the millions involved go to the polls next, they will be asking the question of the Labour leader, where were you when we needed you? Whatever diktats from the Labour leader’s office, there is a weightier responsibility on the shoulders of Labour members, whatever position they hold. It is to stand up for one another in the Labour and trade union movement in this summer of solidarity.

  • Greg Clark – 2022 Comments on Slough Council

Greg Clark – 2022 Comments on Slough Council

The comments made by Greg Hands, the Levelling Up Secretary, on 28 July 2022.

The commissioners’ report has assured me that the current intervention measures remain necessary in Slough. Councils must deliver for the people they serve – which is why I am minded to expand these measures to deliver swift and long-lasting improvements.

Whilst this decision is not taken lightly, difficult decisions must be taken to protect hardworking taxpayers.

I am confident that Slough Borough Council will continue to work closely with commissioners to address their challenges and I hope to see more progress imminently.

I was delighted to visit my good friend Jaroslav Nad today. Our bilateral meeting explored next steps in military aid to the conflict as well as British support to Slovakian defence.

  • George Eustice – 2022 Comments on the Frequently Flooded Allowance

George Eustice – 2022 Comments on the Frequently Flooded Allowance

The comments made by George Eustice, the Environment Secretary, on 26 July 2022.

Flooding is a miserable experience, especially for people who suffer its impacts time and again, and I feel we have a moral imperative to help.

Our new Frequently Flooded Allowance will boost schemes in areas which are hit repeatedly and reduce the risk of flooding in the future.

This new allowance will provide extra support for these areas and forms part of our major £5.2 billion effort to build around 2,000 flood schemes by 2027 and level-up defences across the country.

  • Nadhim Zahawi – 2022 Comments on Visit to Darlington

Nadhim Zahawi – 2022 Comments on Visit to Darlington

The comments made by Nadhim Zahawi, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, on 26 July 2022.

It was great to work from the Darlington Economic Campus yesterday and announce the Treasury’s new permanent office at the heart of the town.

We are levelling up across the UK, tapping into the extraordinary talent in towns across the country and I am eager to see more Treasury roles in Darlington.

People in all parts of this great country have a right to be at the heart of government decision-making and we are delivering on that promise by moving up to 300 Treasury roles to Darlington by 2025.

  • Steve Double – 2022 Comments on Air Quality Grants

Steve Double – 2022 Comments on Air Quality Grants

The comments made by Steve Double, the Environment Minister, on 26 July 2022.

Air quality has improved significantly since 2010 but we know that it remains the biggest environmental risk to public health.

This is why we have today opened applications for millions of pounds worth of additional funding for local authorities so they can take the action needed to cut air pollution and improve air quality awareness in their areas.

Local authorities know their areas best, and we are excited to receive their ideas for innovative measures which will reduce the impact of air pollution on the health of their communities.

  • Jane Hunt – 2022 Comments on the Tipping Bill

Jane Hunt – 2022 Comments on the Tipping Bill

The comments made by Jane Hunt, the Business Minister, on 15 July 2022.

At a time when people are feeling the squeeze with rising costs, it is simply not right that employers are withholding tips from their hard-working employees.

Whether you are pulling pints or greeting guests, today’s reforms will ensure that staff receive a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work – and it means customers can be confident their money is going to those who deserve it.

I particularly want to tip my hat to the work of Dean Russell MP and all the campaigners who have helped make the Tipping Bill a reality.

  • Nadhim Zahawi – 2022 Comments on Support for Ukraine

Nadhim Zahawi – 2022 Comments on Support for Ukraine

The comments made by Nadhim Zahawi, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, on 15 July 2022.

We are unwavering in our support for Ukraine.

The UK stands steadfast with our partners in condemning Russia’s illegal and barbaric actions. Putin’s illegal war has disrupted the supply of food, energy and other vital goods, has caused prices to rise and is exacerbating the challenges the global economy was already facing as we bounced back from the pandemic.

On the 27th anniversary of the genocide at Srebrenica, we remember the 8,000 Muslim men and boys who lost their lives and commend the dignity of those who survived.
