    Lord O’Neill of Gatley

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Andrew Percy on 2016-04-25.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what steps the Government is taking to promote diplomatic connections between the UK and other Commonwealth countries.

    Mr Hugo Swire

We have well established Diplomatic connections between the UK and other Commonwealth countries both through the FCO’s global network and through Ministerial and official contacts with Commonwealth High Commissions and the Commonwealth Secretariat. These enable us to engage with the 52 other Commonwealth members both bilaterally and on Commonwealth business. In 2014 we appointed the first UK Commonwealth Envoy specifically to forge closer ties with London-based High Commissioners and the Commonwealth Secretariat. Our membership of international organisations such as the UN Security Council and EU means that we are uniquely placed to make our voice heard, particularly in support of the Commonwealth’s smaller members.

    Mr Robin Walker

We are about to begin these negotiations and it would be wrong to set out unilateral positions in advance. At every step of these negotiations we will work to ensure the best possible outcome for the British people.

    Lord Young of Cookham

Until the UK has left the EU, we will remain a member of the EU with all the rights and obligations that membership entails.

The Government will work hard to get the best deal for Britain, including for VAT and excise, and is determined to make the most of the opportunities that are presented.

Lucy Powell – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the HM Treasury

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Lucy Powell on 2016-03-18.

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, with reference to paragraph 1.27 of Budget 2016, for what reason the full academisation of schools in England is not included in his Department’s Budget 2016 policy costings report; and what costings his Department has related to that policy.

    Greg Hands

The Budget ensured that the Department for Education is fully funded to support the additional costs of delivering a fully-academised school system.

The additional funding committed to at the Budget is in addition to considerable funding allocated at the Spending Review, supporting further growth in the academies programme.

The policy costings document published at the Budget sets out the assumptions and methodologies underlying costings for tax and AME policy decisions. It does not include DEL spending measures.

    Mr Tobias Ellwood

Our Embassy in Tel Aviv most recently raised concerns with the Israeli Government over the increase in demolitions in the Occupied Palestinian Territories on 21 April 2016. We did not specifically raise Susiya, or Bedouin villages such as Umm al-Hiran in southern Israel at this time.
