The below Parliamentary question was asked by Bridget Phillipson on 2015-11-27.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, how many children in (a) England, (b) the North East and (c) Sunderland required 24-hour care due to life-limiting or life-threatening conditions in 2014-15.

    Jane Ellison

Information is not held centrally on how many children in England required 24-hour care due to life-limiting or life-threatening conditions in 2014-15. The local clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) do not collect information for the North East and Sunderland.

CCGs (and in the case of specialised services, NHS England), will commission a range of care to support children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, including paediatric care, and community-based nursing. A child with a life-limiting condition may be eligible for a package of continuing care, where their needs are such that they require clinical care in addition to that routinely commissioned. This might include one-to-one support. NHS England also allocates an annual grant of £11 million to children’s hospices to support their provision of palliative and respite care.

Children and young people with complex needs may also be eligible for local authority-commissioned social care to support living, short-breaks, and special educational support, where they have a special educational need.

Andrew Rosindell – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Andrew Rosindell on 2015-11-02.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what discussions his Department has had with (a) EU organisations, (b) UN organisations and (c) charities regarding potential partial funding of the resettlement of Chagossians in the Chagos Archipelago.

    James Duddridge

The Government has undertaken a wide public consultation on the resettlement of the British Indian Ocean Territory, which concluded on 27 October. Officials are now analysing the responses, and ministers will consider these alongside a range of options to address Chagossian aspirations. We will need to take into account the high cost associated with resettlement, as well as the open-ended liabilities it could incur. We need to also ensure the military facility on Diego Garcia can continue to operate unhindered. No decision has yet been made about whether to allow a resettlement, and because of that, no discussions have yet been had with any external funding organisation.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what is the expected amount of the Bus Service Operators Grant in each financial year from 2016–17 to 2019–20 inclusive.

    Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon

The amount of Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) paid out for services in England during 2014/15 was some £253 million. As BSOG is demand-led, it is too early to estimate accurately the amount likely to be paid out during 2015/16, although we would expect it to be broadly similar to that for 2014/15.

The amount to be paid out in future years will depend upon the number of eligible claims submitted by the operators of bus services in each year. However, I can confirm that we were able to protect the grant as part of the 2015 Spending Review. Moreover, we will be publishing more details early next year of how we will be reforming the way BSOG is paid to make it even more effective in supporting bus services.
