    Mr. H. V. Raikes was born in 1901, educated at Westminster School and Trinity College, Cambridge, and called to the Bar in 1924. He unsuccessfully contested llkeston in 1924 and 1929 and was elected for South-East Essex in 1931. In 1945 he was returned for Wavertree, Liverpool, which has disappeared under the redistribution. During the war he was a flight lieutenant in the R.A.F.V.R.
