Mr. G. J. M. Longden, partner in a London firm of solicitors, is 48, and was educated at Hailey-bury and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He qualified with honours as a solicitor in 1924 and practised until 1930, when he became a company secretary in India, resigning in 1937. During the war he served in Burma with the 36th Division. He is chairman of Westminster university extension centre.

Has been active in the Workers’ Educational Association and served on the executiye. He was recently made a Government Whip. He is a prominent Methodist local preacher in the division. He was first elected in 1945.
