During the last war he served in the R.A.F., first with a Polish unit, afterwards with Eastern 1 Air Command, and later on Lord Louis Mount-batten’s staff. He has three times previously sought to enter Parliament. He was at one time British schools boxing champion.

Born in 1910, he studied economics and social science in the University of London and later became leader of the Stoke Newington borough council and mayor of the borough, and also a member of the London County Council.

    Mr. D. Kelly, aged 30, and the spn of a miner, is a research scientist. He left Leeds University to join the R.A.F. at the beginning of the war, but a bad crash cut short his flying career in 1941. He came to Ilford in 1943 and was soon afterwards appointed branch secretary of the Communist Party in the borough.

    Mr. D. Kaberry, born in Leeds in 1907, is a solicitor with many public interests. First elected to Leeds City Council in 1930, he resigned at the outbreak of war to enlist in the Royal Artillery and commanded a battery at Dunkirk. He was mentioned in dispatches. In Germany after the war, as a lieutenant-colonel, he was senior legal officer and president of the military governing board at Hamburg. On demobilization he was re-elected to Leeds City Council and is still a member.

    Mr. B. Janner, who was born in 1892, is a solicitor. He sat in the last Parliament as member for the old West division of Leicester, which he won in 1945 from National Labour. He had been Liberal M.P. for Whitechapel from 1931 to 1935, but joined the Labour Party in 1936. He is president of the Association of Jewish Friendly Societies : chairman of the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland ; and vice-president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews.

Also a keen cricketer, she captained Bedford College XI and played in the University of London team.
