Steve Barclay – 2022 Comments on Workforce Disruption

The comments made by Steve Barclay, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, on 3 January 2022.

As people return to work following the Christmas break, the high transmissibility levels of Omicron mean business and public services will face disruption in the coming weeks, particularly from higher than normal staff absence.

We have been working through the Christmas period to prepare where possible for this, with all departments liaising closely with public and private sector leaders who are best placed to operationally manage their workforces.

The best way to combat Omicron is to get boosted and I encourage anyone who is eligible to get boosted now.

Sajid Javid – 2022 Comments on 132 Million Vaccines in 2021

The comments made by Sajid Javid, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, on 2 January 2022.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been one of the biggest challenges our health service has ever faced and our historic vaccination programme has been vital in helping us step up to meet this challenge.

132 million vaccinations in a single year is astounding and a true reflection of the fantastic work of our NHS and its volunteers – I want to thank each and every one of them.

But we need to make sure people continue to come forward for their life saving jab. As we go into the New Year, make sure you Get Boosted Now to kick off 2022 with the best possible protection from Omicron.

Sajid Javid – 2021 Comments on Supporting Other Countries with Vaccines

The comments made by Sajid Javid, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, on 30 December 2021.

The global pandemic has challenged health systems around the world and the best way to overcome this awful disease is to unite and stand side by side with our international partners.

By supporting countries with the UK’s ground breaking science and research into the spread of variants, improving access to oxygen and scaling up testing we will help those most in need chart their course out of the pandemic.

I am proud that we have already delivered over 30 million vaccines to our friends abroad. The UK, as a global leader, is helping other countries most in need. No one is safe until everyone is safe.

I’m incredibly proud of the role the UK has played in developing, researching and manufacturing ground-breaking vaccines and treatments during the pandemic.

Our fight against COVID-19 in the UK and around the world would not have been possible without the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

  • Wes Streeting – 2021 Comments on Announcement of No Further Covid Restrictions

Wes Streeting – 2021 Comments on Announcement of No Further Covid Restrictions

The comments made by Wes Streeting, the Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, on 27 December 2021.

After a difficult 2021, people will be relieved to see no new restrictions ahead of the new year. With infection rates so high, the government needs to come forward with a plan to enable schools and the NHS to run effectively through this latest wave.

The Government should publish, as a matter of urgency, the very latest data on hospitalisations and NHS staff absence rates, as well as up to date advice from SAGE, so that the public can be reassured that they are genuinely following the data and scientific advice and that Boris Johnson is not simply capitulating to his own opponents in the Tory Party.

  • Wes Streeting – 2021 Comments on Prime Minister’s Christmas Covid Announcement

Wes Streeting – 2021 Comments on Prime Minister’s Christmas Covid Announcement

The comments made by Wes Streeting, the Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, on 22 December 2021.

We’re all breathing a sigh of relief that Christmas is going ahead as planned, but the country also deserves some certainty about what comes after Christmas so that families and businesses can plan ahead.

The virus won’t be taking Christmas off and there’s still a risk of the NHS being overwhelmed in the new year.

Boris Johnson is too weak to get any measures to keep the country safe through his Cabinet.

The Prime Minister is focused on clinging on to his job, half his Cabinet are preparing their leadership campaigns, and the country is left with no plan to deal with the imminent threat of Omicron.

The Government must stop arguing amongst itself, come forward with a plan, and give people and businesses clarity.
