    Mr. P. Bell is a chancery barrister practising in Manchester and is aged 50. Born at Wimbledon, he was educated at Stonyhurst College and at Queen’s College, Oxford. He was called to the Bar in 1925. He served in the Royal Navy in the first world war, and in the second he was commissioned and served in France. In 1941 he joined the staff of the Judge Advocate General.

    Mr. W. A. Wilkins, formerly a linotype operator in a Bristol newspaper office, was born in 1899. He joined the Labour Party in 1922 and was for 10 years a member of Bristol City Council. Elected for South Bristol in 1945, he became an assistant Government Whip two years later and was afterwards appointed a Lord Commissioner of the Treasury. During the wan as a stoker in the Royal Navy, he served on Q-ships submarine-hunting off the Irish coast.

    Mr. G. E. C. Wigg, who won Dudley for the Labour Party in 1945, as Parliamentary private secretary accompanied Mr. Shin well, Secretary of State for War, on his visits to British troops abroad. Born in 1900, he joined the Tank Corps when 19 and served for 23 years in Turkey, India, Iraq, the Sudan, and West Africa. Discharged in 1937, he rejoined in 1940, and worked for better welfare and education in the Army. He is one of the joint authors of ” Keeping Left.”
