    Mr. W. R. Brown, born in 1900, has spent his life in the steel industry. He rose from the bench to executive level, and is the manager of a firm of steel manufacturers. In addition, he is a director of steel and industrial companies, and a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. For some years he was a member of the Surrey County Council. He served in the R.F.C. in the 1914-18 war. He is a member of the national executive of the Conservative Party, and chairman of the Surrey Conservative Association.

    Mr. Ivor Thomas, former Under-Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and the Colonial Office, was M.P. for Keighley from 1942 to the dissolution. He resigned from the Labour Party in 1948 because of his opposition to the Iron and Steel Act. Born in 1905 and educated at St. John’s College and Magdalen College, Oxford, he has been on the staff of London newspapers. He was commissioned in 1940 in The Norfolk Regiment.
