Born in 1894, and educated at an elementary school and Bangor University, he has been a prominent member of the Iron, Steel and Kindred Trades Federation, holding many offices locally and being a member of the executive. He was a local councillor for 14 years, and in the last Parliament sat for Bolton.

Col. H. Morris was born in Sheffield in 1893, practised as a solicitor until 1936, when he was called to the Bar. He served on Sheffield City Council, 1920-27 and 1929-37. Enlisted in the ranks in the 1914-18 war and retired as captain; he rejoined in the last war, again in the ranks, and retired with the rank of colonel. Colonel Morris, who played football until he was 40, won Central Sheffield for Labour in 1945.

From 1934 to 1949 he held a number of appointments with the B.B.C., including assistant programme director, Midland Region, and research director of the B.B.C.’s New York office. He is aged 49.
